|

|

|

|
Helmet pads that mount into the ACH/MICH family of helmets. The #4 pad measures ½ inch in
thickness. The #6 pad measures ¾ inch in thickness. The #8 pad measures 1 inch in thickness.

6x6 HEAVY PLATE |
|
A smaller Hard Armor plate used for protection on the sides of the body, usually constructed of
Aluminum Oxide, hence the designation as heavy.

6x6 STEALTH PLATE |
|
A smaller Hard Armor
plate used for protection on the sides of the body, constructed of a 10mm thick
section of Boron Carbide covered in a 'linex' type coating.

AAIED |
|
Anti-Armor Improvised Explosive
Devise. Generally used for any sort of improvised shaped charge specially
designed to defeat armor usually excluding EFP's but not always. |

ACH |
|
Advanced Combat Helmet. Current issue
ground combat helmet for Regular and SOF American Forces.
|
|
APPROACH FOOTWEAR |
|
Shoe and boot designs
that have been born out of the climbing industry. This type of footwear is
usually constructed of a sticky rubber and is a hybrid between an athletic shoe
and a climbing shoe, that gives the user the best of both worlds.

ACOG |
|
Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight. A
compact optic designed for multipurpose use in a variety of lighting conditions
through the use of a tritium powered reticle. Usually issued with 4 power
magnification, but available in a variety of configurations.

ACU |
|
Army Universal Camouflage /Army Combat Uniform. The
former is a digital pattern that is used on the latter.
|
|
ANSI |
|
American National Standards
Institute. ANSI oversees the creation, promulgation and use of thousands of
norms and guidelines that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector. Most often associated with the rating on ballistic eyewear and other personal
protective equipment (PPE).

ARC |
|
Accessory Rail Carriers, as defined by
MSA Paraclete. These rails fit the family of TC2000, TC2001, and TC2002
helmets, and allow the uses of any accessory that could be mounted to a weapon
rail such as a light.

ARIAL DENSITY |
|
Used in the measurement of
armor. The higher the aerial density, the stiffer and more protective the
armor. Ideally the user wants a high aerial density and a low weight'in a
perfect world.

BALCS CUT |
|
A specific cut of soft armor
panels first used in the PBPV and FSBE Vest programs. Now the standard issue
soft armor configuration for American SOF. This is the cut of armor that the
MSA Paraclete RBAV has been built around to give more users the ability to
utilize their existing armor packages in a 'RAV' type vest.

|

|
Trauma Kit. A medical kit designed specifically for the treatment of major traumatic wounds.

|
A soft or hard armor
configuration that covers the outer area of the upper shoulder.

BORON CARBIDE |
|
A lightweight, high density
material used in the construction of some hard armor plates.
|
|
BUIS |
|
Back Up Iron Sight, usually in
either fixed or folding configurations that can be added or removed to the rail
of a Carbine or Rifle.

CANSOF |
|
Canadian Special Operation Forces,
these forces are responsible for some very effective designs that are
relatively unknown in the marketplace.

CPM3V |
|
CPM 3V is a high toughness,
wear-resistant tool steel made by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process. It
is designed to provide maximum resistance to breakage and chipping in a high
wear-resistance steel.

COLOR MATCHED WEBBING |
|
Usually refers to
the 1 inch Cordura webbing used to form the MOLLE attachment points being
produced in the same color as the base color of the pack, vest, or garment.
|
|
CONCEALMENT CUT |
|
Refers to a profile of
soft armor that is designed to be worn concealed under a garment or chest
harness.
|
|
D2 |
|
A high-carbon steel alloy commonly
used in knives and tools.
|
|
DAGGER GRIND |
|
A symmetrical double edge,
with the point in line with the handle, designed for piercing.
|
|
DAMMIT STUMP |
|
A natural piece of wood from
the swamps of Florida that resides in a certain Senior NCO's office.
|
|
DAP |
|
Direct Action Penetrator when
referring to the AH-60 helicopter. Also, a new line of discreet packs, cases,
and other equipment from Blue Force Gear (Denied Area Pattern).

DEMO |
|
A common term used to define Demolition
Charges of varying sizes, to include igniters', fill'.ect.
|
|
DENIER |
|
A rating applied to Cordura, Nylon,
or other military style fabrics that refers to the fabrics wear resistance.
|
|
DOUBLE ACTION |
|
A double-action trigger
performs two functions when pulling the trigger, first cocking the hammer then
releasing it to discharge the firearm. When this term is applied to revolvers,
the trigger also rotates the cylinder. Though this is technically a third
action, it is correct to refer to the mechanism as double-action. Most pistols
and revolvers with a double-action trigger mechanism retain the single action
functionality.

DUMP POUCH |
|
A belt or vest mounted pouch
that is used to store discarded, captured, or otherwise difficult to store
items. Most often used to store empty carbine and pistol magazines after the
weapon is reloaded.

DUTY BELT |
|
A stiffened web belt designed to
carry holsters, magazine pouches, radios, etc.
|
|
DYNEEMA |
|
Dyneema is a super strong polyethylene fiber that
offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times
stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on
weight for weight basis. Dyneema floats on water and is extremely durable and
resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals.

Explosively Formed Projectile (or
Penetrator) although still an IED these babies are listed separately due to
their armor penetrating abilities, massive damage and prevalence. |

ELK HORN |
|
Slang used for the flip down
night vision mount most often seen in the military for the PVS-7 & PVS 14
family of night optics.

EMERSON WAVE |
|
A design detail patented by
Emerson Knives that allows the knife blade to be deployed as it is drawn out of
the pocket.

EOD |
|
Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
|
|
END PLATE ADAPTER |
|
An adapter that replaces the receiver end
plate on an M4 style carbine allowing the mounting of slings or accessories.
|
|
E-SAPI |
|
Enhanced Small Arms Protective
Inserts, these armor plates have a somewhat fuzzier definition than the usual
NIJ level system. There are stricter testing protocols such as strikes within
a certain distance of the edge of the plate as well as multiple bit angles of
impacts.

FAST BALLISTIC HELMET |
|
Future Assault
Shell Technology. A lightweight ballistic helmet built from the ground up to
be compatible with head borne devices.
|
|
FAST BUMP HELMET |
|
Same as above, but with
no ballistic protection.
|
|
FRONT YOKE |
|
A ballistic cover for the
throat area (usually IIIA Level Armor).
|
|
FOLLOWER |
|
The mechanism in a weapon's
magazines that pushes and feeds the cartridges as the weapon cycles.
|
|
G10 |
|
G10 is a glass-reinforced resin
material originally used as a base for circuit boards, and then used for
handles or other 'plastic' parts needing some of its properties like knife
handles and pistol grips. The texture offers a non-slip grip while also being
non-porous.

GAK |
|
Guardian Angel Kit. A kit built by
MSA Paraclete and designed by AFSOC.
|
|
GCP |
|
Ground Commander Pointer. A small
handheld IR laser of varying powers that is used to designate targets or areas
of interest to ground or air units.
|
|
GO BAG |
|
A bag, pouch, or pack designed to
be filled with emergency equipment that can be grabbed and deployed at a
moments notice (i.e. escaping from a burning vehicle or responding to an active
shooter scenario).

GP |
|
General Purpose.
|
|
GP MEDIUM |
|
The single greatest size of
pouch that the tactical nylon world has ever created. The GP Medium from MSA
Paraclete is capable of carrying a Nalgene bottle, small demo wraps, snacks, 3
smoke grenades, 4 flash bangs, 40mm rounds''ect.

GUNFIGHTER CUT |
|
Most often refers to the
MSA TC2002 Helmet which features a 'Half-Cut' profile when compared to the ACH
or MICH helmet. The half cut profile reduces the coverage over the ears by
about an inch on each side.

|
HBIED |
|
House Born Improvised Explosive Devise. This includes a house of any sorts to include shacks or tarps as long as
someone is living in it. Usually used to describe a booby trapped house
(technically) if IED's are inside the house armed and ready. HBIED's are
sometimes confused with a cache which is a storage place for readymade IED's
that are not armed ( or other stockpiled munitions). Although these
stockpiles can be booby trapped it would still be a cache and not a HBIED.

|
A finish process for metals
that produces a tougher more durable product.
|
|
HOOK AND PILE TAPE |
|
Military jargon for Velcro fasteners.
|
|
H-NAPE |
|
The Ops-Core Head-Loc RS was developed to improve safety, comfort and stability of
chinstraps used in MICH/ACH ballistic helmets. The 'H-Nape' variant uses an 'H'
shaped harness in the back to provide that comfort and stability.

H-SAPI |
|
A designation used for runs of
E-SAPI plates that were created when Boron Carbide was under significant supply
problems. The H designation is for 'heavy' as the Boron Carbide was replaced
with alloy.

IED- Improvised Explosive Devise |
|
Just as
the name states someone went out and handmade their very own bomb. Some are
very simple in design while others are very complex but they are all designed
to hurt people and are the leading cause of battlefield wounds and deaths.
There are many different acronyms that try to classify different kinds of
IED's; For the most part IED's are classified by how they are placed or where
they are at. Vehicles, houses , bikes, 'the list goes on and on. Below are
just a few of the common variety's.

IWB |
|
Inside Waist Band. A method for
carry of a concealed handgun where the holster is largely hidden inside the
trousers.
|

IZLD |
|
'IZLID' The IZLID® 1000P is a
long-range IR laser for pointing and marking by military forces on the ground
and in the air.
|
|
JERRV |
|
The big ass truck that EOD drives
around in is called a JERRV as in Joint Explosive ordnance disposal Rapid
Response Vehicle or sometimes called a Cougar (aka Puma =). It was one of the
first MRAP's (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) to be placed in country
specifically for our job. Most JERRV's are six wheeled but there are a few
four wheelers out there, affectionately called Jerrbils. *Note: although the
trucks are awesome they are big and cumbersome in narrow streets, they weigh A
LOT and can easily slip into ditches. They are fitted with tinted glass and
are very hard to see out of at night with NVG's. But hell if it was you
inside a truck driving around looking for IED's I'm sure you wouldn't mind
either.

armor used in conjunction with a hard plate to meet the NIJ standards for
back-face deformation.

|
A chest harness designed

|
Also known as the Multiband
Inter/Intra Team Radio (MBITR), The AN/PRC-148 is the most widely fielded
handheld multiband, tactical software-defined radio in use with US Forces.

PRC 152 |
|
The AN/PRC-152 Multiband Handheld
Radio, also known as the Falcon III, is a portable, compact, tactical software-defined combat-net radio manufactured by Harris
Corporation.

PYRO |
|
Pyrotechnic device. Army fireworks,
a term used to lump many types of explosive devices together.
|

RAV |
|
Releasable Armor Vest. The original cut away armor
system developed by Paraclete for Army Special Mission Units. Now used widely
through the SOF community.

RAV CUT |
|
Refers to the armor profile used
in the RAV. Very close to, but not exactly interchangeable with, the BALCS
armor profile.

RBAV |
|
Eclipse Gear's Releasable Body Armor
Vest system. Similar in function to the Paraclete RAV.

REDI-MOD |
|
Blue Force Gear's conversion of
the Boonie Packer Redi Mag. They machine away about 25% of the weight through
lightening cuts and refinish with a Melonite surface conversion (instead of
Phosphate).

|

industry to define the mounting plate on a helmet that holds the 'flip down
mount' for night vision devices.

SLOPE DOPER |
|
A small metal card with an
inverted protractor printed on it that utilizes gravity to indicate the angle
of a shot. This information is invaluable for determining high angle fire.

|
Special Operations Hard Plate Carrier.

SOURCE |
|
The only hydration bladder that should ever be used, never smells, they are hard as hell to rupture.
|

SHOULDER PROTECTOR |
|
A ballistic cover for
the shoulder area (usually IIIA Level Armor).

|

SOF CUT |
|
Slang used to refer to the TC2001 helmet designation, as it is used exclusively by SOF.

SPEAR POINT |
|
A knife where the edge and the
back of the blade curve to meet in the middle, there is also a straight section
on the spine and usually the edge. |

|
7.62mm semi-automatic precision
rifle.Commercial version of the Mk11.
|

STAND ALONE PLATE |
|
A Hard Armor plate that
does not require a Soft Armor plate backer to meet the NIJ standards.
|

SUPREME PRO X |
|
Battery powered, active
hearing protection that not only blocks out damaging noise levels, but also
amplifies ambient noise to boost the situational awareness of the wearer.

|
TRIGGER GUARD |
|
A protective loop
surrounding the trigger of a firearm and protecting it from accidental discharge.
|
|
TWARON |
|
Twaron is the brand name of Teijin
Aramid for a para-aramid. It is a heat-resistant and strong synthetic fiber
most often used for soft armor panels.

VBIED |
|
Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive
Devise. It does not matter if it was a Car, truck, or van; they are all
vehicles with explosives inside!

|
VICKERS SLING |
|
"THE" Two Point sling.
Developed by Blue Force Gear in conjunction with Larry Vickers, it uses a
captured slider to make adjustments meaning that there is no dangling tail to
get caught in vehicle doors or interfere with weapon manipulation.

WP |
|
White phosphorus (or Willie Pete for
you Vietnam era warriors) is a flare- and smoke-producing agent and an
incendiary agent that is made from a common allotrope of the chemical element
phosphorus.

X-NAPE |
|
The Ops-Core Head-Loc RS was developed to improve safety, comfort and stability of
